For everyone who does not understand, what has happened here is that someone came up with an idea for a magic trick, and then someone made a different trick using the same basic strategy or concept. At less than 1/3 the total cost to the consumer. Nothing was actually copied, or else there would be a copyright violation.
Outside of magic circles, no one would be even slightly offended by something like this. This is how everything works in the real world -- someone comes up with an idea, other people produce similar products at a lower cost. The original idea here is a revision of a much older idea, in any case. MOABT is not a revolution in magic.
The magic community gets very worked up about this, but no one else would get this in the slightest. We live in a free market economy, where people have the right to make a living producing similar works at a more reasonable price.
In the world of magic, tricks and effects are very difficult to protect legally and, as a result, many unscrupulous dealers simply copy the creations of others without permission.
In an effort to help those who wish to buy ethically and support the original creators while avoiding the "new" versions of their effects, Magic Fakers was set up.
(If you are able to help us by leaving comments under the relevant tricks, we are also trying to add dates to establish when each trick was first released)
